Political flags

Political flags have long been used by parties, organizations, and movements to make their symbols recognizable. Some are closely associated with national elections, while others represent regional interests, political ideas, or organizations with their own history. The designs vary considerably, from familiar party emblems to flags connected with movements in different parts of the world.

Our political flags collection includes designs from the United States, Europe, Asia, and other regions. Many have a history that extends beyond the organizations or events with which they were originally associated.

Political Party Flags and Symbols

In the United States, the donkey and elephant have represented the Democratic and Republican parties for more than a century. The donkey became associated with Andrew Jackson during the 1820s, while the elephant gained recognition as a Republican symbol through the political cartoons of Thomas Nast in the 1870s.

These two animals remain familiar features of American political imagery. Our collection includes the Democrat Donkey Flag and designs featuring the Republican elephant.

Political parties elsewhere have developed their own recognizable emblems. In India, the Bharatiya Janata Party uses the lotus as its election symbol. Its party flag combines saffron and green, with the lotus displayed in the saffron section. The Bharatiya Janata Party Flag is one of the international political designs available in our store.

Regional Movements and Political Organization Flags

Not all political flags belong to electoral parties. Regional movements and organizations have also adopted distinctive banners to represent their identity, political aims, or historical background. Some are connected with campaigns for greater autonomy or independence, while others reflect broader political traditions.

One example is the Free Aceh Movement Flag, associated with the separatist movement established in Indonesia's Aceh region in 1976. The movement was involved in a long conflict with the Indonesian government, which ended with a peace agreement in 2005.

Other designs in the collection are associated with regionalist organizations, ideological movements, and contemporary political groups. Some are unofficial or conceptual designs rather than flags of recognized states, making it important to distinguish their origins and meanings.
